This video is a tribute to those transgender people who have been found murdered across the world since the last Transgender Day of Remembrance. The video list was compiled on November 15, 2010, so any new additions to the list will not be in this. To see the full list of names, and the list of the locations that are having an event this year, go to: http://www.transgenderdor.org/ A special thanks goes out to Ethan St. Pierre who, for years, has lovingly kept the list updated and has chronicled the location of where events are happening. He has helped make this the international event it has become.

  • In just the last few years, there have been a dozen such murders @ Memphis, TN.

But a central fact which most publicized reports fail to include, is this:

Nearly all the murder victims were working as prostitutes; some were known to be killed by their clients after finding out that they weren't buying exactly what they were expecting. All the suspects were black, which was a 2nd reason those murders were neither (beyond locally) deemed 'newsworthy,' nor lamented by the Adl or SPLC.

  • thank you for this video. one suggestion- some of the slides were not displayed for long enough to read all of the information on them, and i'm a pretty fast reader.

  • R.I.P STACEY YHU ARE TRUELY MISSED MOMMAS

  • Sad...

  • :'(

  • Interesting that some of these murders occurred in Pakistan, Malay and Turkey, all predominantly Islamic nations. In several Muslim countries trans people are not only allowed to transition (surgery and hormones), but, in the case of Iran, the State picks up the bill and the individual is always considered a full fledged member of society -- On the other hand, sadly, a homosexual in Iran will be hung in the street. Not so surprised by Pakistan, but Turkey should be far more enlightened.

  • This is very sad!!

    poor women

  • This was so painful to watch, but important and poignant. Thank you.

The loss of trans people to homicide is devastating, and equally devastating is the loss to suicide. I wish Trans Remembrance ceremonies honoured and remembered them as well. I have lost friends and almost myself to suicide and it is equally tragic. As sad as all of this is, I can only hope it encourages trans people and allies to engage in trans activism to promote the dignity we need not only from society but for ourselves.

  • Very, very sad. So much brutality for what, macho bullshit?

Thank you for posting this. So many gentle people killed for expressing themselves. Thank you to all who speak up and defend human rights to a full expression of gender.

  • Revolution and reformation in education, politic, social and religion...that is what we need. Open debate and discussions in open forums between selected (the one who really know about TG not just playing sentiments) TG representatives and politicians, religious authorities professionals such as doctors, lawyers, scientists and anyone who related in this issue. Something have to be done...and quick...

  • I hope they are all in a better place now and can rest in peace. Here in Brazil the homophobia and transphobia are constantly growing. So sad.
