This is a Gemtech Silencer being tested in Longview Texas at the 2009 Longview Silencer Shoot. The first shot is unsuppressed and absurdly loud.

  • .338 subsonic rounds would be retarded & kind of defeat the purpose. typical loads are 3000fps to be subsonic you would have to reduce that to around 1000fps.

The reduction of sound would still be very beneficial to the shooter of the weapon with the standard ammo. if you were shooting subsonic you might as well be shooting .380 pistol ammo.

  • @bugs19682 You are incorrect that .338 Subsonic would be retarded, nor are you correct about subsonic .338 being the same as .380 pistol ammo.

  • @aynrandgirl Because of the regulations on suppressors it is harder for smaller companies and individuals to get into the business of legally making and selling suppressors. This lack of competition drives up prices.

I'm sure you are familiar with this concept based on your name ;)

  • @michaelbarrettm107 and the extra length :D

  • Well... there went $45.

  • @Zyyler55 Contrary to popular belief, Suppressors have no effect on range, accuracy, or ballistics. And suppressors also eliminate up to 70% of felt recoil. People are retarded and think that since the L96a1 on blacks ops suppressed has less range and damage that it my be true in real life. The only downside to a supressor is the cost ( anywhere from $550 to $1,500) and the extra pound or two they add on to the rifle. I love my Gemtech and AAC suppressors.

  • Why are 338 suppressors so expensive?

  • @johntitsworthjr does the Barrett have the same effect ( power ) if the silencer is attached to it? what about the accuracy? - what about the recoil?

  • Isnt the point of a silencer on a supersonic round to modify the report? There is still the sonic boom from the round. Its almost as loud as a .308 going off when I pull targets for the 600s

  • Ok so its actually closer in energy to a .44 magnum my point is the standard round has 4830 ftlbs of energy at 100 yrds & the subsonic has 629, kinda like buying a bmg 50 & putting a .22 conversion kit on it.
