The University has a distinctive New Zealand character derived from our region. Waikato is Māori name meaning flowing water, a name we share with New Zealands longest river and our home province. The Māori character of the campus is an important aspect of the University of Waikato's identity.

Hamilton is New Zealands fourth largest city located in the North Island, 90 minutes drive south of Auckland. We are central to many of New Zealands most popular tourist attractions and outdoor activities surfing, skiing, whitewater rafting, hiking, caving, climbing, kayaking to name a few.

Beautiful campus and warm people. I visited and met a few of the instructors in the Maori Studies department. Very impressive in all aspects, especially curriculum. I will definitely be there for my doctoral studies!

this is my hometown...if peeps are thinking of studying abroad here i would say helllll yes! come here..i go to uni in christchurch but the waikato campus is much nicer and hamilton actually has a small town feel which is what you want here in nz...also the nightlife here is epic; better than Chch and definitely better than Auckland...Not better than Wellington though...Wellis is also another good choice
