I am a floridian. This is a foreign concept to me. My friend in Iowa has been trying to explain sleet to me for the last half hour. I still don't get it.

HOW DOES IT WORK?!?!?!? i already wiki it

@jordan11257 I have witnessed thundersnow in Nashville a few times. Also, hail does actually form in cold weather. This happens frequently in cool marine climates (like California during the winter). This video was definitely sleet/ice pellets (differentiation for our British friends) however.

Wow, that's a lot of sleet!
NTylerN, sleet and hail may look the same, but form in very different conditions. Hail forms in severe thunderstorms when raindrops are pushed up by strong winds, causing them to freeze and accumulate ice. When they get heavy enough, they fall as ice chunks. Sleet forms when snow hit a warm spot, melts, and then re-freezes.
