The latest addition to the ongoing series of Placebo Tribute Videos. An alternate version of Placebo's cover of the classic Kate Bush song "Running Up That Hill", originally from the 1985 Kate Bush album "Hounds of Love". Placebo covered this track in 2003 and again in 2007 as a release on their covers bonus disc of "Sleeping with Ghosts" and on the 2007 US version of "Meds".

With this video, I wanted not only to make another Placebo Tribute, but also to honour Kate Bush, one of the most influential artists in music. I hope this is ok for you. Many thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I enjoyed making this one, despite feeling ill at the moment!

"It doesn't hurt me.
You wanna feel how it feels?
You wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
You wanna hear about the deal I'm making?
You be running up that hill
You and me be running up that hill

And if I only could,
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...

You don't wanna hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware that I'm tearing you asunder.
There's a thunder in our hearts, baby.
So much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?

You, be running up that hill
You and me, be running up that hill
You and me won't be unhappy.

And if I only could,
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
If I only could, oh...

C'mon, baby, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh...'

And if I only could,
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems...

'If I only could, be running up that hill"

  • Hello my friends. Very sincere thanks for your really nice comments so far. Some really interesting ideas coming through about the lyrics I've noticed :) Kate Bush was one of my favourite female artists from the 80's (including Cyndi Lauper and many others) and Brian added something extra special to his cover. I think this particular version is an extended remix. Brian's whispering of the words, gives a very intense edge to it. I'm hoping to create another tribute soon x x x x

  • SO damn good....... perfection....... you are frigging BRILLIANT!! stunning video mate. a very interestingly crafted track too! a very special song for your collection.

  • The whispering as opposed to Brian's more climactic version of this song is as you say Gav, very intense and I love this version just as much as the other. Really beautiful video you've created here, the visuals of Kate Bush make it very special. Brian's vocals on this cover are superb, he's turned the song around and claimed it and your vid is just stunning! Thank You :)

  • great artist and great song!

  • @Special5K

when I first heard the song many years I immediately thought of the deal Orpheus did with god to bring back Eurydice to the world of the living by leading her "up the hill".....

  • @nofret26

Interesting interpretation of the lyrics, dear gabi, I was often wondering about the meaning of this song, and what you believe sounds very reasonable to me!

  • Dear Gav, a new masterpiece of yours! I'm having a special relationship to this song since I'm old enough to remember the original of Kate Bush, and I love Placebo's cover. It was such an amazing unforgettable moment when they performed it in Stuttgart so surprisingly :))) I also like that you included Kate in your vid! Interesting audio, I only knew the "a cappella" version with Brian's whispering so far!
