Whale sharks near Cancun July 2011

Swimming with whale sharks off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The open sea near the islands Isla Holbox, Isla Contoy and Isla Mujeres is the site of the world's largest aggregation of whale sharks. Every year between May and September people can swim with the ocean's largest fish. One of the many unique treasures to be found in Mexico and a fantastic, once in a lifetime reason to visit.

Hi TheUamex, the whale shark season runs May through Sept, tours leave from Puerto Juarez, Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox. You have to do a tour as it is a protected area and the captains have to be trained on how to maneuver through these amazing creatures. WELL WORTH IT, ask for a local's discount as it is a pricey tour.

oh , that's awesome, can u tell me how to get there , i live in cancún , but have never heard about this. i have seen a catshark in Isla Mujeres , but there was nothig exiting , poor fish is kept in a small "pool" that smells really bad : (

I swam with the same shark (probably on the same day) that's at 0:44! I know because it has the upside-down white remora on it's right fin. I thought it was so weird. Check out my video and you'll see it.
