Dr. Samadi describes the difference between viruses and bacteria: how they behave and how they are treated. He discusses a new study where H1N1 is causing pneumonia in patients. Pneumonia and H1N1 set each other off. It's more prevalent in high risk patients who have a history of diabetes, respiratory or lung disease, are immuno-compromised patients. These patients need to get swine flu vaccine and the pneumococcal vaccine as well as practice preventive measures such as avoid sick people, cover mouth when coughing, use hand sanitizers or wash hands frequently.
