  • Heartbeat City was a slick album with massive hooks. Lacks the genius and creativity of earlier work but lots of fun to listen to. Very new-wave and very 80's.

  • I, too love the High Quality Audio. The Cars Coolest song from Heartbeat City and among so many. Much obliged, joltinjack.

  • in response to the list below IMHO Panorama was too punky for me. I was more of a straight rock guy then and still am today, thats why I like the first album the best.

  • superb song that i had completely forgotten about!

  • the cars is by far the best album, a distant second would be Candy O, Heartbeat city would be a distant 3rd behind Candy O, after that it doesnt matter....in my opinion, just sayin!

  • @sadalite: Maybe a survey of a representative sample of Cars fans who possess all of their albums? My ranking would be as follows;

    1. Candy-O

    2. Panorama

    3. The Cars

    4. Shake It Up

    5. Heartbeat City

    6. Move Like This

    7. Door To Door

    For me, (with the exception of the dismal "Door To Door") I like every song on every Cars album. That's why they've been my favorite band for so long.

  • @Pacisdiligo You didnt read the part where i said i can speak for other Cars fans "that I know", and yes, maybe the your definition of a true fan is different, but this album has the most everything in terms of sales, singles and album. So, in that respect it was the fans favorite. Not sure what other way you can judge which is the fan favorite, or do you disagree with that as well?

  • @sadalite "....true fans"? What constitutes a "true fan"? I purchased each album on vinyl when it was released in the 70's and 80's. I re-purchased each album on CD, including their new one, "Move Like This". I venture that I am one who can be considered a "true fan" in every sense of the word. I even saw them in concert during their "Heartbeat City" tour in '84. Don't get me wrong, I really like "Hearbeat City" and listen to it often. I just don't consider it to be the Cars' top tier material.

  • @Pacisdiligo its slick and yes plenty of hooks, but i most whole-heartedly disagree with you on its lacking of genius and creativity of earlier work. I can speak for other Cars fans that I know as well, this album is most often the one listened to by true fans. Period.

  • See…. To anyone paying attention out there, HELLO?! THIS is a good Cars song. You get me? It may not be their best, it wasn’t a single, but it’s a fucking masterpiece compared to My Best Friends Girl. The tone of the guitar, kicks MBFG’s ass, all over the place. You only hear Rick’s stupid voice for a few seconds.

  • beautiful song

  • one of my favorite songs
