UAB's Tommy Wier is a documentary filmmaker who specializes in telling little-known stories about the colorful characters of his native Alabama. Here Wier recounts the cinematic life of Eugene Walter, a flamboyant writer, artist, and bon vivant whose life spread from Alabama's Gulf Coast, to the Greenwich Village art scene, to the glamorous streets of Paris and Rome.
Almost anything is reason for a party.
Let's have another drink; we're not dead yet.
Thank you, Eugene!

People who think Eugene Walter was a fraud are shallow and insensitive. Eugene was a true renaissance man. An artist and a poet in many ways. There was an aura of magic around him and all who met and knew how to appreciate him will tell you so.
I had the honor of being part of his world. He was as mysterious as enchanting and I truly miss his stories, told in a light Southern drawl. I miss his presence each time I visit Rome and I'll never forget the grand time he made me spend once in Mobile.
