www.mountainhousestables.com / Well we made the Top 10 at the 2010 NW Extreme Mustang Makeover in Allbany and placed 3rd. We had a couple of minor glitches but for the most part I was satisfied. 2 1/2 points separated 1st and 3rd. Festus the Wild Mustang, from Wild to Mild in 90 days.

  • Nice work, Gerry! Also very nice video on how you gradually ask for the lay-down, (not throw the horse down.) Do you lay all your horses down or just the very belligerent ones? At what point in training do you introduce it? I met some horses who were worked with by another trainer who threw all his horses down first thing. I came along to finish starting them but I didn't like how the horse would just "check out" under stress. Thanks for your videos, they are helpful!

  • @saralicht

I don't lay them all down nor do I decide to lay one down just because they are belligerent. For some horses I think it actually relaxes them more BUT you should wait to do it after you have taught them to get quiet and surrender to the small things, because "asking" a horse to lay down is NOT a SMALL Thing! The big bay mare is still very hyper-sensetive and wild but I could just 'feel' she might benefit and that she was ready. I just ask in little leans and gives. Thanks!

  • Hey Thanks! I see you are the ONLY comment! Congrats! I had a couple of screw ups, Festus had jumped the barrels a 1000 times at home, why he decided not to is his issue... He was also an awesome natural lead changer, me having 'stage-fright' I decided I should help on the lead change and made him stutter and stumble, I think that is what cost us the most in points. I did have a lot of fun and i was proud of the horse, those 1st two weeks he charged and bit and struck a lot. Thanks again.

  • i will admit, i like some of your training tecniques. i like how you teach the horse to ride between the tarps, to walk over the tarps and to use the teeter totter. what i dont like is how you seem to rush your horses and ignore what they are trying to tell you. if you learned to read and understand horses it would make you a better trainer.

  • he has a amzing break for a horse that has only been trained for 90 days 0.o
