Ha! Watching this video, I was like "okay, okay, this girl thinks kinda like me for BC options. Hormones suck. And then you mentioned a menstrual cup and I was all "HELL YES!" :) Awesome video- asking my doctor about it soon... Hopefully me being 17 (and never been pregnant) doesn't matter- cause I really, really don't want to go on th pill!!!!

@yukihai Yeah even though my experience with Merana was really bad it was worth it in the end I never got pregnant while on it and I never had to think about possibly getting pregnant because it not like the pill.

@starkiss67 omg...it was the worst pain ever - the nurse said that my usterus (when they expanded the arms of my mirena) was feeling something that was " exactly like a delivery contraction" I was sweating- turned very pale - and almost passed out. They said it was gonna be a 'slight' pinch. I actually cursed - not at the nurse practitioner...at the pain.
In the end it was worth it!

@beazly85 I've had an Mirena since 7-7-10 It took me about 2 mos for my face to clear up again. I had some vagina dryness for the first month too. I gained about 10 lbs in 4 mos, but haven't gained anymore. I get kinda emotional around my period time (more than before), but I've had no other problems. I also don't get cramps anymore :D!!! Good luck with yours :) Just remember to check for your strings after each period. The strings will get soft after~2 mos

Well don't say "you can't worry about it EVER" lol I am 16 weeks PREGNANT WITH THE PARAGUARD IUD, it's only been in 3 years.

I got the copper one put in day before yesterday. It didn't really hurt much but I had lots of cramping afterwards. Anyone who is afraid to do it because of the pain- I suggest you take some Ibuprofen and go for it. It's no worse than menstrual cramps and insertion takes five minutes.

i have a cousin who had an IUD but it slipped out of place and pierced her inside. all birth control has it's risk.

yeah but dont get mirena!!! ive been a total wreck since i gt it!!
isn't it possible to take the old IUD out, after 12 years and have a new one put in for another 12 years if you don't want to have kids?

@JRockLovinAtheist Yes, except that it's 10 years. I've had mine about 8 years now and would just get it replaced after 2 more years, but with the advent of less-invasive sterilization methods for women, I'm looking into something permanent.

The IUD thins the endometrium to prevent implantation. The ACOG and AMA changed the definition of pregnancy to exclude pre-implantation, so -voila! - starving your child to death before implantation is not abortion. This is not its primary effect, of course, but it can happen. Read the manufacturers' patient/doctor info carefully. BTW, some NFP methods have over 99% method effectiveness.

No, the IUD acts as a sort of spermicide and disrupts the sperm so that they can't get to the egg. You have old data, possibly tainted by propaganda. Of course NFP has a superb effectiveness--if you USE IT RIGHT. The problem is that people don't use it right. It's a great method but people's adherence to the method is poor.

This is so sad that people think they have a lot of bad choices, and the IUD is the least bad. Besides its dangers, the IUD also acts as an abortifacient.
Natural family planning is safe and effective, good for your relationship, soul and body. We've used it for many years.

Actually the IUD is not an abortifacient--that is a myth. I'm glad you found a method you like. However, many people don't adhere well to NFP and this is not a realistic method for irresponsible people who should have an effective birth control nonetheless (or actually, more so!).
