lawn mower sputtering and then shutting off. What is wrong with it??? I just changed the oil, filter and spark plug... It works sometimes for a few minutes and then dies...
First of all check your gas level if not you will most likely have a clogged jet ( The screw that hold the bowl on in the bottom of the carb.) If you want i can make a video on how to fix it just let me know:)
Manually idle the engine on the butterfly shaft. If it dies, idle circuit plugged. Engine will hunt. A partially sheared flywheel key will make engine miss. A hunting engine is a fuel delivery problem. Remove plug. If electrode is white/clean, it is running too lean (read: hot). Not good. These are simple engines. You have to be smarter than the engine. Can you do that?
Yep - clean the holes in the plug holding the carb bowl on. Use a stripped twisty-tie - perfect diameter and stiffness. Push it up into the hole where the bolt goes too. Make sure to the the teeny tiny jet on the INSIDE of the bolt.
If you have cleaned carb I would double check and make sure the screw that is on the bottom of the carb has all the holes cleaned out on it. It sounds like its partially clogged. There is a larger hole in the top of the screw and a very small hole right at the end of the threads on the screw

I did also clean the bowl gasket when I put the bowl back on. That may have been part of the fix as others suggest.
