Why did they boycott Harkins Theatres? The Land owner who Harkins had the lease agreement with decided to demolish the property. Harkins owned the business not the land.

I lost count how many times I saw Star Wars there, plus so many other features over the years. It was an unfortunate event when the property owner determined yet another tacky tasteless office building should sprout on Camelback and displace the theater. Too bad so much of Phoenix history has been lost due to developers who wanted to make a buck.

Thanks for the nice video. I saw "Star Wars" numerous times at the Cine Capri along with many other blockbuster movies, it was the place to be when they came out. I now go to the one at Tempe Marketplace quite often.

Thank you for sharing this video. I always wanted to go to this theater, but I moved from AZ in 1978. I remember at one time it was the only theater in the entire state of Arizona showing "Star Wars" (1977-78).

They were the great old days of drive ins.
I live in Australia and the only one remaining is the STARLINE which on sunday mornings turns into a flea market.

This was the only place to see The Empire Strikes Back in Arizona when it came out. I remember in May 1980 being six years old. My Aunt took me to see the opening day show at 8:00pm. It was one of the greatest nights of my life.

The problem was that the theater was built on rented land, a 30 year lease.
