This video is provided by The Awareness Center, Inc. (the international Jewish Coalition Against Sexual Abuse/Assault).
David Mandel is the CEO of Ohel Children's Home and Family Services in Brooklyn, NY. Ohel is an mental health agency that receives both State and Federal funding.
A few people asked what was the question posed to David Mandel. Due to time limitation on Youtube The Awareness Center has to break the video down into to parts. The first person speaking is Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb: Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Baltimore, MD. The Second person is Dr. David Pelcovitz, Phd. Here's the introduction to Mandel's question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX2RvXZ6XdA Here is David Mandel's response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soo67uqrseE&eurl For more films on sexual violence in the Jewish community go to: http://www.theawarenesscenter.blogspot
i can't believe that i heard this- david mandel recommends that childhood sexual abuse should not be reported to authorities because of a sense of communal responsibility (protection). appalling!

David Mandel HAS BEEN the expert in keeping things quiet and in maintaining a culture of silence in the community.
Putting "family relationships" and "friendships" before protecting our children.
He and this is one of the reasons why things are this Topsy Turvy in the community.
This all needs to change and will if people will listen to qualified professionals (which he is not) that are concerned with protecting our children rather than the community self-image.

It is unacceptable that a Rabbi could suggest that people should cover up sexual abuse of children. This is truly unbelievable.
