@frufrubeer slooshy is to "hear" actually not about sex. it just happens to sound perverted, and unless burgeuss purposely wanted to make sexual symbolism in the book about alex listening to music then I doubt it has any connotation at all even from kubrick. Without being too " smart " : I think what the author wanted to show is that the main character, Alex, is moved sexually by the symphonic music. Since Alex doesn't feel love or really get off on sex ( other than rape) , it's bizarre that when he hears a great composer's work, he really has a mental orgasm.So , yes, he IS masturbating..
