LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer, III spoke to graduate students in Professor Margaret Reed's Ed 524 Leadership: Challenges in Urban Education course on November 28, 2007 on the primary "leadership challenges in urban education" that he faces as the superintendent of the second largest urban school district in North America. Additionally, he addressed how he and his leadership team identified those challenges, what course of action has been mapped out, who has been identified to co-lead this work with him, and what outcomes are anticipated as a result of this work. Superintendent Brewer, a former Three-Star Vice Admiral in the US Navy, has been leading the school district since October 2006. Brewer was unanimously selected by the LAUSD Board of Education to become the 46th Superintendent. LAUSD is comprised of over 800 schools, 77,000 employees, and operates a $7.5 billion budget.

  • It's not worth their struggle for positive publicity.

  • @skipstops LOL-I agree. Not only did I go to Dist. Schools but I was also an employee. From personal experience in a non teaching position I witnessed nepotism and out-right and corruption.I dont blame the Teachers or staff. We had a Supervisor that used to say if the men are happy the Supv. must not be doing their job

  • @skipstops yes LAUSD schools do suck in general.

  • @calman1951 I said "worstest" because it's one of top worst school districts. the LAUSD system is mis-manged so much in the past and today it still is mis-mangement.

  • LAUSD is a pathetic joke. Its pathological emphasis on "social justice" and politically correct excuse-making have robbed an entire generation of children of an education. USC just facilitates LAUSD's failures by validaditing it as a legitimate educational body.

  • Blah.....Blah.....blah.

Always pointing the finger on somebody else!

    Google this: Detriot's graduation rate!

Not very many undocumented students in Detriot......thats 4 SURE!

  • Illegal immigration is such an enormous problem effecting the LA schools. Gang affliation is another enormous problem, and anyone in a gang should be put in an alternative school.
