Today we are going to be installing brake control part number 90185, the Prodigy, along with the Prodigy wiring harness, part number 3040-P, on a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. We are inside the vehicle now, and the first thing that we are going to do is to locate the aftermarket port that we are going to plug the 3040-P into. The first thing we want to do is go ahead and remove this. There is actually a thumbscrew right here that needs to be removed and then there are a couple of pop rivets here that you just need to pry away from, then pull that out into position. You might need to actually remove a little bit of the bottom plate here, as well, to allow the plate to be removed. And you can see there are a bunch of electrical connections here. The port is kind of hidden that we are going to be connecting to. It is actually taped to this blue harness here, almost by the fuses. You can see I have already cut the tape here and I can pull the connector out, right there.
OK, we are going to go ahead and plug our harness in. The harness actually has a separate ground on it as well. There is actually a ground stud right to the front facing side here, up on the panel that we just removed, so we want to go ahead and remove this screw and attach our ground wire to it. So, we are going to go ahead and do that next.
OK, now that we have got the connector connected to the tow package and the ground screw mounted, we want to go ahead and route our harness over to the mounting location. There is actually a nice, flat surface on the bottom side of the dash here on the Sequoia that we are going to go ahead and mount the brake controller to. We are just going to just kind of do this loosely, I am going to zip-tie it up behind here afterward. Again, we want to route it over there. You want to be sure when you are routing it that you do not put it in any kind of area where it can get pinched or hot.
Now that we have got it kind of routed over here, I am going to go ahead and mount the brake controller in position. OK, once we have determined where we are going to mount the bracket, we can go ahead and drill the holes for the mounting screws. You want to make sure you always check behind what you are drilling into to make sure there are no electrical components that could be interfering with the drill bit here. I am going to drill this out with a 1/16-inch drill bit and then we will mount our hardware later.
OK, with the mounting bracket in place, we are going to go ahead and install our brake controller. There are two sets of holes in the mounting bracket. Determine which height works best for you, and install it at will. And then the last thing to do is going to be to plug the Prodigy in. And you can see, with the connection made we are flashing an NC on the brake controller, which stands for no connection, which is basically telling us that there is no trailer connected to the vehicle right now. That will blink for a few seconds and then it will just go to two dots, like so and again, that is just telling us that there is no connection. After that, we are just going to go ahead and again secure these wires up and out of the way, and then our installation will be complete. And again, with the wires secured up, we want to make sure we go ahead and put our kick panel back into place. This will conclude the installation of the Prodigy brake controller, part number 90185, along with the wiring harness, part number 3040-P, on a 2008 Toyota Sequoia.

to the right is a cubby which was designed to fit the prodigy perfectly. That way you dont have to drill.
