What makes great non-profits great? Now more than ever, social sector leaders need to know how to maximize their impact. This session draws upon the groundbreaking research published in the recently-released book Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits (Fall '07). Co-author Heather McLeod Grant will moderate a session with senior leaders from several of the 12 high-impact nonprofits that she and her co-author studied. Together, they will provide an overview of the six practices, and give you tools that you can use to increase your impact -- whether you're a social entrepreneur, director, board member, volunteer, or donor.
Heather McCloud Grant- Center for Social Innovation, Stanford University Graduate School of Business
Anne Marie Burgoyne- Draper Richards Foundation. The Draper Richards Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship that invests in early-stage non-profit organizations with start-up funding and technical support.
Aimée Eubanks Davis- vice president of new site development, Teach For America.
Mary Mountcastle- senior associate at Self-Help, a non-profit community development lender that has made almost $4 billion in loans to over 43,000 low-wealth families across the U.S.
David Yarnold- executive vice president, Environmental Defense.
This session was part of the 2007 Net Impact conference at Vanderbilt University. Close to 2,000 business leaders and students from across the country packed Vanderbilt University Nov. 1-3 for a massive event to discuss how to build a successful business while also being socially and environmentally responsible. The theme of the Net Impact Conference, hosted by the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management, is "Building a Sustainable Future, What Will You Do Next?" Participants heard from 300 speakers in 90 different sessions dealing with corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, international development, and non-profit and environmental management.
