  • Where did you get this kit I have one that my father got in the 1970 s

I havent built yet but what too

  • @7mjbennett - The starplates came from Strombergs chicken coops (I believe that is so - although actually I was given them by a friend) . The wooden rods and the srews and bolts I bought from a local hardware store. So it wasn't "a kit" as such. But nice in a way because everything apart from the star plates you can get from a local hardware shop. And you could use things other than wood for the rods.

  • Hello chinchkavass, the poles were about 2.25 meters long, but you could have them be a bit longer or a bit shorter as long as you have them ALL THE SAME LENGTH. That is the important thing. In order for the starplate geometric structure to fit together well, the distance between the holes you drill in the wood at either end needs to be the same distance on each rod. And to make it easy to do this it is best to have the rods be as close as possible to the same lenght themselves.

  • Hi. I think you can get the starplates from Strombergs (just google "Starplates"), and its the top link. I don't know anywhere you can get them in the UK. Not really sure as a friend gave them to me as a gift.

  • Hey joe, think they were about 2.25 meters... just what the local wood shop happened to be able to supply me with! ... So the diameter came out at about 5 meters. The base is a regular pentagon of side length 2.25... just off the top of my head I think that means that the diameter is about : diam = 2.25 / cos(54degs).... so maybe more like 4 metres

  • Avon electric in New Zealand are the people that manufacture the starplates, You tube will not allow links, but if you google avon electric starplates they have a web site

  • Avon electic in NZ are the people that make this starplate system. Its pretty cheap too

  • @MattKayeJ They are only a bit too long for climbing. Domes are a tension structure, so you're not going to stretch the wood. Just don't try to climb it in the middle of the struts. :)

  • @moodist1 Not true at all. Those are very strong. The way the upright struts slant gives it the illusion of it not being straight. It threw me off for a second too when I build my first one.

Mine has survived 80mph winds with no damage at all. Just make sure the base is secured well to the ground. :)

  • @AndrewBindon Thanks! Im going to build one of these for burning man!

  • What lengths are these poles? I would like to make one!
