All great comments, ASEAN friends! Our colonial history will always be part of our cultural fabric so whether we decide to choose the purification or hybridization of our musical cultures we cannot escape the call for unity, understanding, valuing, and cooperation. I am fearful of ultra-orthodoxy as it can lead to extreme fundamentalism, as I am of post-modernist subjectivism. The tension itself is, I think, part of our ongoing conversation and determination for peace in our region. Mabuhay!

@JMPNavarro and in order to progress, we should add our own culture to be educated, it is an embarassment that we do not even teach our pre-spanish history, which drive filipino pride into mistaken ways, instead it should be directed to helping the country, so they can be reminded of their ancestor's riches beforehand, we can try to regain that, and insist our govt. to research the documents just sitting their waiting to be read written in hanzi, kanji, and spanish.
-
@JMPNavarro I have no problem with co-existing with chabacano speaking people, however I will have a problem making spanish the official language of the philippines. You only accept it because you do not know the full extent of your pre-spanish history, the way things were you would prefer it, the only thing that dropped was cooperation, which unfortunately that happened exactly the time invasion came up, and the kingdoms fell because of it. Before, we were prosperous.

@JMPNavarro And last, but not least, unity:with colonial mentality, it will be difficult to reach this. Oh btw, sorry I didn't see your other comments, but in regards to your first one, there are different definitions of the term "colonial", however you know what I mean and do not require an explanation. And what about mexico? They still suffer even though they decide NOT to keep their real cultrue, it's not really cultural exclusion, it's cultural preservation and perhaps revival
-
@JMPNavarro Then you share my thoughts. The last things you want to see are petty quarels: colonial mentality is basically a form of crab mentality, lust for power: the people with colonial mentality don't really want to benefit our country only themselves, desire for ego: I just said, only benefit themselves... Cultural diplomacy:if you don't have a culture present this is not possible, thoughtful preservation:What I am doing right now, preserving our culture.

@ThtOnePinoy: The last thing one earth I want to see is that all the forces of good in this world are dissipated because of our petty quarrels, lust for power, and desire for ego. I believe in ASEAN and its forward trajectory. I think that we can co-exist in mutual respect, cultural diplomacy and thoughtful preservation, and unite to shed light and wisdom on the dark alley ways of economic imperialism. Peace be with you.
ASEAN has a new ANTHEM, my Brothers and Sisters ! It is "The ASEAN Way".

My dear Friends, my ASEAN citizens,
ASEAN and EU are different organizations and they are located in different regions. Not all Europeans are sure of their future, but many Southeast Asians like you and I have a very big hope for our homeland.
Friends, be proud of ourselves, be proud of ASEAN and our diversified cultures! Let us raise high our Golden Rice Flag, sing loudly our song! Let us come and share our traditional values and work hard for a greater common value - ASEAN unity.
