According to the experts of Focus Humanitarian Assistance the depth of the lake has reached 315 feet, rising at the daily average rate of 3.2 feet. About 55 feet height of the debris still remains for overflow of the water.
@transdrole What you see there is past the tree-line....its maybe a few hundred meters above.....if you google earth it you will see beautiful agricultural valleys......but you are right in one sense, the population density there is very low at least compared to the other parts of my former, rapidly turning into a shithole of a country.
i m only want to respond the observatioins of my friend "punjabrakha " who blame geo. i m not a fane of geo. i go to hunza in may 2010 on a wedding sermony. the total transport , say all trade is stoped with china, by this occousion who will be pleasent and who will be angry. my friend will be an indian or usa nationality holder. the people of hunza says that if a child born in rakshaw at faisalabad , all of pakistani media take it up and we r totaly cutt of entire world , what u dome for us,
Inshallaha nothing will happen, Geo is anti Pakistan and spread panic in country, so brothers don't worry, its a huge mountain which has fallen in between mountains, and inshallah all the stored water will be drained easily, there are lots of big stones and solid rocks in this fallen mountain which is not possible to removed by this much water, so just wait inshallah it will be fine soon
I am not an engineer but it seems to me the most urgent thing is to stop the water rising and it would be done faster even if temporarily, by connecting the lake to the downriver side with a pipe and siphon the water off the lake.
I suppose the inhabitants who risk losing their homes and lands must be very distressed.

One thing I can't understand. That is barren land. No trees, no topsoil, just rocks. How can people live there? How do they feed themselves?
