Live broadcast at 24 April 2010 from the Metropolitan Opera, NY

Tosca: Patricia Racette
Scarpia: Bryn Terfel
Conductor Fabio Luisi

From Puccini's Tosca, act 3

Sorry for the poor quality sound.

Jonas Kaufmann was not in a particular good voice today, but he managed to have huge ovations anyway. He went across the role with a lot of emotion, only getting obviously hoarsy a few times. But from now on, don't ask me to consider him a tenor. In his dialogues with Scarpia (excellent Terfel remebers us that version of Pons vs Caballé), the bass/baritone had some difficulty as well to get the public to understand that HE was the baritone.

  • I hit the button too soon. I meant to finish and say it sounded much richer and warmer in the house. recording can never match the live performance. this performance is etched in my mind forever, it was glorious. A thrilling performance. Terfel was outstanding.

  • @idleruler Terfel outstanding?

I wouldn't say that, but the idead I got through radio was that he had some problems in dealing with baritonal Kaufmann lol :-P

  • @ElisabettaVS For me, it is clearly a 17/20 with a baritone playing a tenor role lol

I wouldn't buy this. What about this saturday? We've got Arminda with Renée!

  • @LordMgls Haha, did someone mark my comment as spam? Ridiculous, but... oh well.

    What is a 17/20?

Which saturday? Saturday, May the 1st? Is it a radio broadcast, again? I'd love to listen!

  • @ElisabettaVS 17/20=85%

    Next Saturday - may 1st

  • What an amazing voice. Just when you think it's getting a little heavy, he pulls off the high notes gloriously.

  • If he ever gets is voice uncovered (for example in line with his "i" vowel, it will be gorgeous.

  • C'est là le plus grand ténor lyrique du siècle !

  • Poor Puccini. This is one of the worst versions I have ever heard.

  • His Don Jose this week was staggering!

  • @LordMgls Ah yes, that's what I'd rate it, too! It was a good performance, but there was something missing to make it 100% perfekt! :-))

Thanks for the date, I'll listen to Armida! There were so many advertisings concerning this new opera with Renee Fleming (?) that I have to listen to it! :-)

  • @bpb71 What exactly do you mean?
