For doing this, what is the best thing to have on your horse when first desensitizing them to different objects? Do you think it's best to have a halter and long lead, or just tying them up like this? Thanks for all your advice!

Ahaha! I love Buddy yanking on the lead rope. lol

Buddy really likes to chew stuff lol

You can obviously see that the horses are tied with a quick release knot (or something along the line of that), and if they did spook they would easily come untied without harming them selves or anybody else. But you can see, these horses will not spook at much. People with sensitive horses should know not to tie the horses anyways. He only tied them for the demonstration.

I love all of these videos. I just got a 5 year old fox trotter and a six month old quarter. I have been using a lot of your training tecniques on them and they are responding very well. Also another good sacking out tool is a trash bag filled with cans.

watching your newest videos I now understand why you niknamed buddy "hollywood"! Always try to be the clown of the show! :o))

im doing the same sacking out routine on my 6 year old paso fino he'd spooky he's getting really good at desensitizing. hes still weary of other people but i hope after a while he'll become my best friend . thanks for giving me new idea's : )

do you have a video on fixing a horse that has a fear of being tied?? My baby girl was abused (at least mildly) at some point in her life, and whenever you tie her up in an open area she freaks out and pulls back. If its just in a stall she's fine. I've tried just looping the rope so its not actually tied but she still panics, and giving her cookies when she just stands, and I don't know what else to do.

This is an excellent resource for what tools you can use for desensitizing a horse, but I do have one comment. For me, having a very skittish horse that has had no desensitizing in the past, it would be very unsafe just tie. With your horses, although they do react slightly to the bags and such, I assume must have had prior desensitizing to this video, correct? Therefore, for those of us with fresh horses, would you suggest that it may be better to hold them in the beginning, for safety sake?

Buddy is so damn cute!
This is a good video to show how NOT to sack a horse out. "Sacking out" a horse is a great training tool but you should never have the horse tied, that is really stupid! If you have your horse tied and go to sack it out you are asking for your horse to pull back, react even more strongly and possibly injure itself. You should have your horse on a nice long cotton line with the other end in your hand, NOT tied!

@jetscasa : Make your own video if you know so damn much and stop watching mine. You are obviously one of the "knowitall" horse people I talk about that are too narrow minded to see success when it happens in front of you. If you are so right, why did my horse not pull back? You my dear is a prefect example of another horse person giving stupid advice when you don't know what you are doing.

Ever tried Bbbles? I have an old (We don't know how old) Clidstale, retird form the loging trails. He is deaf now, but blowing bubbles still seems to spok him a bit.
