Svetlana Ballester Akimova a Cuban Jewel I first saw in 1986 at the New York International Ballet competition where she won Bronze and was an audience favorite.Jose Manuel Torres Carreno won Gold at same.She like Bosch and Alonso had a devistating stage presence.We had dinner one night which was full of joy and much laughter.Thanks Yosva for bringing back those memories.

I got emotional watching this post.The Myrta of the great Aurora Bosch I first saw in 1977 at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York to Alicia Alonso's Giselle with the CUBAN BALLET.She drew gasps from the audience and a standing ovation followed after her coda and conclusion with the corps. behind her.She has no equal in the role Cuban or otherwise.
