Donna Loren performs on The Red Skelton Hour, air date 2/15/66. This is a tearful rendition of "The Way of Love", a tune Ms Loren had previously performed on Shindig (10/14/65). The song was written by Jacques Dieval and Al Stillman. It was originally written in French under the name 'J'ai le mal de toi'. The French lyrics were written by Michel Rivgauche. In 1965, it was released as a single by Kathy Kirby in English. Curiously, while this single failed to chart in her native United Kingdom, where Kirby placed several singles on the charts in the mid-60's, it became her only song to place on the Billboard Hot 100. "The Way Of Love" was later recorded by Cher. Her version hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1972.
Donna Loren was the one-and-only "Dr Pepper Girl" from 1963 to 1968. She was signed to a long-term contract with the soft-drink company to sing all television and radio commercials, do all magazine and billboard advertising representing them in every capacity, sometimes sharing the spotlight with American Bandstand's Dick Clark. This relationship led to her touring in Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars with other popular acts like Diana Ross and The Supremes and singing solos in the popular Beach Party films starring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. Later, she became the regular female vocalist on the popular 60's American live rock n roll TV show "Shindig" and she appeared in singing and acting roles in many iconic TV shows like Batman, The Monkees, Gomer Pyle, The Mothers-In-Law, Red Skelton, Milton Berle and various game shows. She's released 22 singles, an album and 2 CD's. Ms Loren is currently in the studio again making music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ-wN37G2rs
Shirley Bassey's version is even better than Donna's and Cher's.

You are so right. No other version of this song comes close to the original hit version by Kathy Kirby.
