but when talking about israel, you shouldnt forget the following facts:
- most israelis want peace, but they need to defend themselves against continuous attacks and threats. they just want to survive. sometimes they are too agressive.
- the muslims fundamentalists want to exterminate all jews, they want to complete the holocaust. they do not want peace, muslim world domination is their primary goal.
we should take care that history doesnt repeat itself.
of course you can criticize the israeli gouvernment, that doesnt make you a racist. no religion deserves freedom from criticism, freedom of speech is more important.
but when i look at the situation in israel and palestine, i have to say that it seems rational and moral to support israel, but you need to also criticize those illegal jewish settlements.
The point being, It is because of the connection many christians have towards the jews, at least in comparison to a common enemy, that our friendship with israel is so powerful. No practical reason, but a religious one. So it doesnt benefit us, it only hurts us.
what i mean about judaism is that it doesnt have to grow here. Israel has had the ear of US politicians since its birth and much of our middle east foriegn policy is dictated by them as it is by oil.
Even worse, somehow criticising the israeli government or lobbyists makes you a jew hater, even though you can like jews and dislike the isral gov. In fact, there are plenty of jews unhappy about even the creation and/or policies of israel.
i wouldnt worry about judaism, they dont try to convert people, its incredibly difficult to become a jew, and quite a lot of jews just call themselves jews but dont believe in the religion.
yes, its quite a big task, and it will take a few decades until you really see effects.
my most optimistic guess would be that it takes at least 30 years, probarbly longer, until the non-religious part of the population is in the majority.
It's obviously, as we both know, quite difficult if not nearly improbable we can apostatize North America. Of course the problem with educated rational people with very moderate/no religious beliefs at all is that we have no candy covered rose coloured words to help--and we don't fight nearly as hard to create a free democratic society as the religious fight every day to dumb the everywoman and everyman down to an ideological piece of clay. Unfortunately the problem seems to start with education
i agree with you kurt. but most are brainwashed from birth. thats very hard to get over. europe is moving away, but america may take a few more decades no matter what we do since christianity and even judaism has entrenched itself here decades ago.
They wont go away easy, but i do hope it happens sooner rather then later.
but i disagree strongly on one thing: we need to eradicate religion and faith from politics. as long as religion and politics mix, there will always be trouble. politics need to be RATIONAL, faith-based politics only cause suffering.
i would even take it one step further: we should try to get rid of religion by deconverting people and by changing peoples minds, to the point where everyone understands that religion is just organized superstition and stupidity.
