In my opinion, Toad is the best character. Sure, his jumping stinks, but his strength works very well when you have to grab things quickly like coins and vegetables when enemies get uncomfortably close. I don't remember if their speed varies, but I recall beating this game easily with him on every level.

I have this on my Wii. And how you said that in sub-space everything underground is coins, I have played this game and I got the poshin to go to sub-space and there was a place that there was a lot of plants so I put the poshin down there and when I went to sub space, The plants were still plants! What's the deal with that? That got me soooo mad!

@maddog54100 I believe if you pick up too many coins in subspace every plant you pick up after that will be a vegetable. There's a limit on how many coins you can get per level.

It's just Toad, and he picks up stuff very fast but doesn't jump high at all.
