My floating arm trebuchet, built following a slightly modified version of Ron Tom's Plans.

Still calibrating, but the range is in excess of 225 feet, my first throw.

some stats:
CW mass: 10lbs+axle
height: ~1 meter
projectile: golfball
range: 225+ feet

All shots in this movie are intentional misfires
(did not want to retrive the ball each time)

The trestle was damaged in one clip - thats when I installed the trigger.

  • Hey very nice trebuchet, and nice use of carmina burana. I am building a trebuchet of my own with about the same dimensions of yours and was hoping to building a floating arm model. I do have one question though, how did you make the trigger for the counter weight to fall? I have been trying to sketch ideas, but they all do not seem to work correctly. Thanks

  • its just a trap door. two pieces of wood are attached to the uprights . (see 1:07 on) To attach, i drilled holes in the cross beams and then sunk a tiny screw into the hole, allowing it to rotate on that axis. On the other arm I did the same. To cock the arm, raise it above the two trigger beams, slide them closed, one on top of the other, and secure with a coat hanger bent into a u with an attached string, pull, and the clip comes off, letting the trigger arms fall to the side.

  • 1:54 the wheels almost fell off the track

  • @kcattila1 u should have videotaped the trigger in action cuz I can't seem to get it right : [

  • really nice action. nice build.

  • where do u find the plans to build this model? and what type of wood were u using?

  • You need to ZOOM OUT or STAND FURTHER BACK for at least a few shots when you're filming this thing. This looks like a cool little treb, but I'm hitting dislike because you don't have a single shot in this whole video where I can actually see the entire machine in action.

  • song plz?

  • @ardillosa what exactly do you mean by "normal" trebouchet

  • ouch, i think something snapped in the last attempt :D:D:D

  • @kcattila1 Im lost.

  • @ardillosa Were all the counter weights the same mass because if there not your experiment is screwed
