With over 10 years of living aboard and cruising on her current boat, solo-sailor Rebecca Burg shares the realities. A common misconception is that boating enthusiasts who live aboard & cruise live in an idyllic fantasy world laying around on beaches and drinking cocktails. In reality, the cruising life is A LOT of WORK! Here's a small glimpse into what it takes to live the life. The short video doesn't show all the hard work involved, but it's a start.
Note: Retired cruisers & wealthy yacht owners do not have to do this much work.

  • I never thought that the "sailing life" was easy. In fact, I feel it is a privilege and the hard work comes along with that privilege. It is certainly idyllic for the stronghearted adventure seeker. Here's to many more happy sailings for you and yours!

  • Even not living aboard, just owning a sailing yacht and there is always something to do it seems. I actually enjoy working on mine, it has become a new hobby along with sailing.

  • @Animehem If you can eat Ramen without getting sick of it, you will have no worries. It's very cheap living but GOOD living, too.

  • @latinamajor thats nice i was hoping it was food cause im on the ramen every night diet lol and tomstoe soup for breakfast

  • @Animehem Almost all of our cash goes towards food and fun. Food is by far the largest expense. We eat like kings. :)

  • @latinamajor what is the most expensive? where does all that cash go

  • @Animehem

My wife and I spend somewhere around $1K and 800 a month. That does not include repair costs. See you out there!

  • would you or anyone else have any idea as to a rough estimate of the cost of just living aboard no marina just anchored. oh and thank you so much to whoever reads this or replies. I'm planing on living aboard very soon so excited!
