The BBC Radio 4 shipping forecast, a British institution and still relevant for today's mariners. I find the narration has a hypnotizing quality, and I hope this film translates that feeling. The shipping forecast is broadcast on BBC Radio 4, three times a day.

@RichyBMelodies youre missing the point. they cant forecast the weather on board. they need the radio.

You should try living on a container ship in the middle of nowhere with 35 metre waves and winds 120km/h. without the shipping forecast ships could sail into life-threatening situations.

@EverywhereVirtually You need to get in the real world, nobody uses the BBC Shipping Forecast, nobody needs it; it might be quaint and romantic but so is a horse and cart rumbling down cobbles, and do they broadcast a four times daily cobble report? No.

If you want to live in the olden times go back to 1978 with your tobacco pipe sat in front of a wood fire with your pot of broth on the stove and listen to the wireless until 10pm when it goes off the air. You'd love it.

Ships / boats have sophisticated technology to tell them all this shit and don't need a mainstream radio show to repeat it.
