In Search of History - The Aztec Empire Part 2

When explorer Hernan Cortés arrived in the New World in 1519, he found the present-day nation of Mexico dominated by the Aztecs. Highly skilled farmers, builders, and merchants, they were also savage warriors who practiced human sacrifice. Listen as leading scholars trace the rise of the Aztecs from a band of just over 1,000 to the dominant culture of ancient America and learn how the Spanish were able to hasten the fall of this mighty society in mere months. Tour the great temple of Tenochtitlan, where ongoing excavations are unraveling some of the enduring enigmas of the Aztecs, and discover the culture's continued influence in Mexico today. THE AZTEC EMPIRE explores the riveting history of a civilization that rose to dominate nearly all of Mexico in just 400 years.

  • The Aztec religion was fu** up but they were 10x smarter, advanced n definitely cleaner then the Spaniards. It was savage, but for them it wasnt. While the Spanish burned, n tortured people for not believe in their god. the Aztec offered themselves for their believe.

  • @puertasdecielos it was a empire you dumbshit.

  • @TheLoyalOfficer it was more like 200,000 allies. cortex would of got his as killed even with all this guns horses.

  • @8698gil not just that, but because of the 200,000 native allies the spanish had. Cortez army was shit even with guns and armor.

  • The Aztecs were not evil, they were simply following their religious beliefs. Christians used to burn people alive in the name of their religion, so where is the difference here? Religions have always scapegoated people, that's one of the problems with religion. Every religion singles out a certain group as being favored and special above all others. Which is what makes murder in the name of religion so easy for people.

  • The Aztecs were overcome by Cortez so easily because they believed he was Quetzalcoatl, the "Feathered Serpent" of their religion returned. By coincidence, many of the details of Cortez's arrival coincided with their ancient prophecies.

  • @slimm1121 well said :)
