  • Girlfriend STILL had it.

  • You don't need a dictionary to define "pro" for you... all you need to do is look at a clip like this. Supremely confident, totally in command, and who cares if the song is wrong for her, and she is wrong for the song... you get the feeling that if the set fell down around her, she wouldn't even notice until after the applause had died down at the end. She was born to be in the spotlight, and I was lucky to have been born in the same century as she was. There's just no one like her, bless her!

I am a music major, and I assure you she isn't flat.

  • I used to do a smokin' Ethel Merman imitation, if I do say so myself.

  • Does anyone know if she recorded this on an album?

  • @TONYFROMWESTSIDE Ask any musician or singer who has played huge ACOUSTIC auditoriums

like the Merm did for decades on Broadway. The acoustics always raise the pitch. Ethel Merman

is THE BEST! Her voice was worn from much use booming America's favorite songs from a stage

without microphones into an audience of thousands. There have been VERY FEW performers of

her caliber in entertainment history, and we were lucky to have her. RIP Merman the magnificent!

  • @TONYFROMWESTSIDE what do you mean? she's out of key?

  • @TONYFROMWESTSIDE She's not flat!

  • This was a perfect song for "The Merm". The only shame is that we weren't able hear her sing it when she was 35 or 40 years old (and not at 70 like in this clip).

And if anyone thinks that Ethel couldn't sing a ballad, just listen to "I Got Lost in His Arms" or "The Best Thing for You" from the "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Call Me Madam" albums respectively.

  • One of the best voices of all time. Great song for a great lady.
