This is one of our Buffons Macaw babies, now 8 months old, shown with its new mom. These Macaws can grow as large as the Hyacinth Macaws, are very mellow, are generally not that noisy, and make great companions. This Buffons is going through its first molt.

  • buffons and hyacinths are my dream birds. for now ill stick with my scarlet tho =D

  • @creepygirl94

    same here

  • I always thought buffon and military were the same ^^;;;;

  • @aramacaos a lot of macaws are born in captivity so I don't see WHY we couldn't buy one :/ buying one from a breeder is not gonna make the population decrease.

    also, a lot of people owns macaw and teach them tricks and keep saying they are sweet and loving creature (though very demanding)

    so I don't know where you got YOUR info....

  • hope to see updates on him:-)

  • I don't understand all this wishy washy nonsense about it being cruel to own a macaw, or that they're "not docle". I own a macaw and h is by far the sweetest, albeit mst demanding, bird I've ever had and I wouldn't trade him for the world. Look folks, so long as a bird is kept happy and healthy, it's not cruelty. I do beleive it's wrong to pull birds from the wild, but captive bred indviduas do well with their humans!

  • @aramacaos They're not tame, but big? O.o Wha?

    My understanding is that this bird was captive bred, which doesn't affect wild flocks.

    The problem wild flocks are facing has as much to do with destruction of habitat through commercial farming as it does with poachers (US has bans, I know, so no one mutter about that) who sell through numerous black markets. If this bird is going to a good home w/a responsible owner, I don't see a problem. I'm more pro-adoption than starting fresh, but still...

  • Don't listen to this person below. Beautiful bird!

  • Macaws are not docile, they are tremendous!! They are cute but not good pets....Do not buy them... Great Green macaws are almost extinct. Please, dont support the pet trade.

    We have to keep them in the wild no in cages.

  • Macaws generally are docile.
