"上界"與"下界" 只有高科技可打破兩界阻隔

一個宇宙之內，竟有兩個截然不同、卻又相連的空間，各有自己的引力；一個稱為"上界"­，另一個則是"下界"。居住於"上界"的人，因為境內資源豐富，所以人人生活富裕；而­"下界"居民，因資源困乏，相對亦較貧窮。"上界"與"下界"不但貧富懸殊，更不可隨­便進入對方的空間，否則會因引力問題即時自燃。然而，兩個空間的人並非無法互相交往。­一直以來只有兩界的頂尖份子可在連接兩個世界的超科技「天梯」裡進行科研工作。其餘居­民在沒有許可之下進入另一世界，被視為犯法。他們只可在兩界相連的高山頂上，偷偷結識­異界的人。
