When I saw the new DeLovely line from Cosmo Cricket I just new that it would be perfect for a home décor project! The fun, bright colors and cute chipboard flowers will be so cute in a girly room -- which is exactly why I decided to make a shadow box for Vianka's bedroom.

Shadow boxes are a fun way to bring scrapbook products into your home décor. They are perfect for using dimensional embellishments and ephemera. The shadow box I used is just one I had laying around the house....you can purchase shadow boxes at most any craft store -- or even Wal-Mart! Most of them don't come divided like mine -- but this project could easily adapt to a regular un-divided shadow box.

Here are a few tricks and techniques that I used in my shadow box:

• To make the large butterfly in the section with the photo I just traced a Jenni Bowlin chipboard butterfly on patterned paper and cut it out. By using the paper butterfly I have much more flexibility because paper is much easier to bend. I just bent my butterfly in the center and made the wings lift up off the page. I only glued the center of the butterfly down. This gives my project more dimension and makes that section of the shadow box really stand out.
• I also layered several of the DeLovely chipboard flowers. These flowers are so cute -- and they layer together perfectly.
• Another thing to remember about the chipboard stickers is that it's OK to cut them apart. If the whole sticker doesn't work with your project just cut off the portion that does work.
• To fill in blank space I drew a few swirls here and there throughout the shadow box. I think this gives the project a more whimsical look. To make my swirls I first drew them on with a pencil, then traced over the pencil lines with a black marker. Once the marker dried I just erased the pencil lines. This is a great way to add handwritten journaling or doodles to a page.
• Don't be afraid to mix products from different companies and product lines. Even though there isn't any orange in the DeLovely paper I thought the orange Jenni Bowlin butterfly was the perfect addition to my project. Don't be worried about matching everything perfectly -- sometimes NOT matching can make your project look unique and different.
• Layering buttons is a fun way to add dimension to any project. Plus if you layer several different colors of buttons you will end up with a one of a kind embellishment!
• I outlined the bottom right square in my shadow box. Sometimes adding a simple square around a photo or piece of patterned paper can give it a nice, finished look. My outline isn't perfect by any means....but that's what I like about it. Don't be too worried about making straight lines!

Supplies used for this project:

-Cosmo Cricket: Delovely paper, cardstock stickers, elements, chipboard and pink tiny type stickers.
-Jenni Bowlin: Butterfly chipboard, embellished butterflies, felt butterflies & mini die cut label papers.
-American Crafts: Typo Chipboard Thickers

  • When I clicked on the lemon poppy shoppe site, it was invalid. When I clicked on the lemon poppy studios link it said I had been "hacked" (but it was in a friendly "OMG! You've just been hacked" (word for word) type way. I closed out instead of continue the different clicks. Sad cause its such a GREAT craft and i just know i'd LOVE to buy stuff from this site.
