Few girls compete here so not many teams; but there are some girls only big national contest. Its a spartan sport !

@0asiz I agree, the girls generally seem to give a good account of themselves and girls today are much stronger and more determined than they used to be, so they are closing the gender gap.

From watching wrestling videos on youtube it would be very easy to conclude that boys don't stand a chance against girls, but we all know that the reality is that a girl winning is more of an event, therefore the parents, or indeed the girl herself, are far more likely to post the video on youtube.

I have fought girls in high school + university. There is a significant strength difference. While there is a benefit to having tournaments based on sex + weight classes (the fact is that women's wrestling is not at the same level as men's wrestling at high levels), I don't think there is much of a difference in capability until 16+. Quite frankly until the wrestlers have a good 4-6 years experience behind them and are doing serious training I don't think it matters.

@gtijohn69 Actually, girls today are not magically stronger than in ages past, it's just become more socially accepted to watch women compete athletically, so more of them are training and seen today than even a few decades ago. As you say, a girl winning against one of the albeit 'wimpy' guys is still considered an event and so a disproportionate number of these will be posted vs. the more usual and expected outcome. Second, boys don't go as hard against girls, or risk being seen as a douche.
