Beautiful version Diana!! So touching...!! Impressing!! I really prefer Diana than Netrebko... :) Bravo Diana!!
She is the new Gruberova!! :D

I am a Netrebko fan but Ms. Damrau is so wonderful in this role. Hard to imagine a contemporary who is better!

she has amazing control over her instrument and a great technique that allows her to sing with great precision...a pity there is on video footage of this.

Highly dramatically alert performance. Bravo!

That is a water armonica, an instrument already much forgoten by the time the opera was written but used by Donizetti by the eery quality of the sound, perfect for this scene. This is the original music composed by Donizetti.

next march Lucia will be HD broadcast. . . i just wish it was Diana and not Dessay in the role(not that i don't like her, but i really really wanna see Damrau :S)

@lipera hi, i know you wrote this 5 months ago and probably already forgot it but i agree with you about ". . . We want as many good sopranos as possible to keep on doing Lucias for a long long time!"
i would like you to listen Rachele Gilmore doing Lucia, if you already did it, you'll agree with me that she has a bright future ahead her(she is only 28 years old) if you hadn't it will be a really good surprise

@musikphantom1881 I agree! No one can top Sutherland, but that's not what we want right? We want as many good sopranos as possible to keep on doing Lucias for a long long time!

Diana Damrau is great as Lucia, either her dramatic passages or the coloratura ones are very good. I don't like to compare sopranos but something is telling me that they should have recorded and released the DVD with Damrau instead of Netrebko. Diana is Dynamite!

What a privilege it would have been to have heard Damrau in person on that occasion...
-
I don't know if anyone can ever top Joan Sutherland for me, but this is beautiful.
-
I agree with
Marroiamaxu: Netrebko is wonderful, but she does not have voice for this...
Is that an armonica instead of a flute? haunting and beautiful

Yes, that's right :)

Is this the entire aria? It's missing something, I think.

No, it's not. The entire aria is too long for a single video. Check the 'Ardon gli incensi' and the 'Spargi d'amaro pianto' for the whole madness scene :)

Amazing performance! Her voice sounds so close. I would like to know what was the distance between you and the stage when you taped this, Lillith89ibz.
Thanks for all the posts, by the way :)

You are welcome ^^
