Yes, this is the same place President Obama and family went snorkeling last year. It is a world famous toruist attraction hence packed with many foreign tourists. It is very accessible by tourists. Many hotels on waikiki beach have shuttle service to take you there for $14.95. Each visitor has to play $7.50 for admission. It is free for Hawaii residents. You are required to watch a short video on nature preservation and snorkeling safety. Then you can walk from the visitor center down to the beach, or you can take a shuttle tram, $0.75 going down, $1.00 coming up. The walk down is scenic and you should save that 75 cents if you are healthy. There are equipment rentals down on the beach.
If you decide to drive there, make sure you arrive early because parking is limited. $1 per car for parking.
As you can see from the aerial views in the video, the bay has patches of light and dark areas. The light blue patches are sandy area, no fish live there. The darker areas are the reefs, you will see a lot of fish when you swim over them.
These clips were shot in Hawaii with a Fuji film XP 10 waterproof camera. There were a lot of tourists at this place. The water is not as clear as that on the North shore.
