Maltese training is a little different in many aspects from the training given to the other dogs. Maltese are basically calm by nature and don't prefer exercising or going for a lope.

Maltese dogs like socializing with both humans and dogs of other breeds and therefore require companionship on a regular basis. Companionship is the most essential aspect of Maltese training and the ignorance of this aspect may give way to an anxious nature in these dogs.

Last but surely not the least; make sure that you are easygoing with them. Though Maltese dogs are cheerful, they can act stubborn too when you plan to take them for an exercise walk around the block.

  • @horselover5993 You may not know that Maltese and other toy breeds are different from large breeds in the rate of maturity and responsible breeders (not mills & BYBs) do not let them go home before 12 weeks. Please refer to the American Maltese Association for further information.

Sorry about your loss. My wife & I have a Maltese, you have to own one to appreciate what wonderful little dogs they are.

  • My Monique was the best...she just passed today and am grieving...she was so obedient and trained easily...she loved when I talked to her from the start and so was trained this way...she was 13 yrs. 7 mos..she will be in my heart....

  • I hav a dog and he needs training alot

  • @kalliebelle omg really?i got my maltese at 8 weeks =(

  • An error in this info ... Maltese should stay with their mothers until the age of 12 weeks, per the American Maltese Association. Eight weeks is way to young for a Maltese to leave its mother and siblings.
