The late Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in American music in the post war period. He managed to combine elements of folk, rock 'n' roll and country, which together with his distinctive voice and guitar style, created an instantly recognisable sound. 1994 was to prove to be Cash's only appearance at the Montreux Festival. The "Man In Black" had just released his acclaimed American Recordings album and his European tour took in Montreux on July 5. This track is taken from the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux".

Johnny was one of my favorite all time performers and I love his interpretation of this song. No one can quite do it like Johnny. But has anyone here heard the old Sons of The Pioneers Recording of this from the 50's that appeared on the Cool Water Album? That was the first recording I can recall hearing of this tune. (Roy Rogers, et al.)
Some people say, that this music is "all too simple". Well I say yes, Johnny indeed was a normal man, one of us. And he wasn't playing a thousand chords in each song - but that's exactly why we love him! Johnny - we miss ya!
it's not that it's simple it's that it's without ideas compare this song to Tchaikowsky's Romeo and Juliet or Michael Jackson's Will you be there or ABBA's I let the music speak or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody those are true compositions with original ideas these country thingumbobs on the other hand can be created in 2 seconds one after another and one sounds like the other like Haydn's countless symphonies
