  • Engine was cold then, so about 500 rpm probably, shame about the noisy lifter...

  • Cheers guys, have just finished rebuilding the engine, turns out a few of the lifters were on the way, 2 were real noisy cam wasnt too bad but had seen better days. They wore up real quick too once they'd started, oil press was good and engine wasnt in bad nick really. The quick blast was taken just before I rebuilt. Nice sounding SD1 by the way, one of the best engines ever built, ahead of its time too back in the Buick days..

  • @blockheadface Rover V8 is all alloy so it weighs less than the American Cast Iron Boat Anchor's. Plus, produces more HP per litre than American V8's. Secondly, they're actually abundant. 1UZ's command a price premium for even a shit one that's been left outside in the rain.

  • @v8demus the lifters settle in when the engine is warm in my Discovery :-)

  • @blockheadface The Rover is all aluminum and weighs quite a bit less. Plus it comes with a 5-speed gearbox.

  • Hey guys.. nice sounding Rover.. would love to get the fuel system you've got there.. the quad DellOrto's for my Rover.. check mine out on how it sounds.. only I turned mine into a chainsaw.. and didn't put it in a car... V8sawgal. I named the saw "Ragzz" look me up on here.. you'll love the sound of mine..

  • @andrewbthomson I don't see how the Rover would be any less "horrible" than, say, an LS1, but to each his own I suppose. The question was initially just because Cobras are traditionally (and were originally) Ford-powered. What else is there? I suppose a Toyota 1UZ, but I don't know how easy they are to obtain in the UK.

  • @blockheadface because chev and all other american v8s are so horrible it beggers belife, german v8s are to much money so what els is there?

  • Why would you use a Rover engine in a Cobra?

  • This engine started out life as a Buick 215 in V8 in the early 60's, and then GM sold it to Rover as it didnt want the engine for further use.

  • What is the ticking in all the rover v8 vids? Is it the lifters or distributor??

  • watch out that'll have your arm off!!!!
