I've tried to describe how a 'switch' (when another insider in my dissociative system takes over the body) feels. There are different ways a switch can happen but I mostly experience a gradual change in awareness as the insider swaps places with me and that's the kind of switch described here rather than any other.

  • This is lovely...quite a good description of the switching process...for me, i stopped drowning when i gave up the struggle...the other parts of 'me' are just as real and want 'outside' time also.

  • @fairylightsrising Thank you. I respect my others a lot and try to give them time out as much as possible when they want it..I guess switching still scaires me coz I don't know what's gonna happen even tho I trust almost all of my others

  • I really liked your visuals of an ocean seperating the "inside" and the "outside." Before I was diagnosed with DID, I used to say "I feel like my head is above a dark lagoon; I can see everything above the water, but nothing below it...and sometimes I feel something brushing against me under the surface, but I don't know what it is." Well, now I do. And *we* do.
