Actually Wikipedia says that he had already been taught playing the piano since his early childhood but nevermind he in fact has that unique style and at the and of the day it is not that important who has got the better technique or who can play 32th in 200bpm (technique is not unimportant though) it is important who lets the audience swing, who's got that drive, that feel and Monk certainly is the master! But please correct me or better wikipedia if I'm wrong.

That's not true. Monk had classical piano lessons throughout his childhood and reached a very high level.
