1983 Vikki deVries US Nationals LP

Injuries had taken the punch out of Vicki in 1983, after a very successful 1982 season. On this night, she had a chance to bring home a national title, but just didn't sparkle enough to hold off an incredible skate by Rosalynn Sumners.

Correct me if I am wrong...did she have any other triple other than the toe loop. I wonder if that is what kept her off the world team. It sucks cuz Zayak withdrew and Vikki could have competed.

@metsdudenj ar this time, all you saw was triple toe and salchow......maybe an occasional loop.......she had good jumps, but was recovering from some injuries........elaine just had LOTS of toes and salchows.......best wishes

I love Zayak, Chin, and deVries (was not too crazy about Sumners, as I personally saw her act badly/rudely several times), and I wanted all 4 to go to the worlds that year!

deVries, in my opinion, made the mistake of choosing a program that is a generic hodge podge of soundtracks and classical pieces, especially given how sensational Chin's presentation was.  I am kind of surprised that Fassi actually allowed her to skate such a generic program.

I was surprised she didnt make the world team especially when she was in 2nd, and Chin was in 5th. I wonder if de Vreis belonged on that team, especially since Zayak withdrew.
