Members of Teen Challenge (Missoula, MT) talk about their activities and their upcoming fundraiser.

Teen Challenge Montana Women's Outreach Residential Center is a faith-based, 20-bed facility located in the heart of Missoula, for women 18+, with no cut-off age, who desire to get free from life controlling problems such as drugs, alcohol and other destructive behaviors. Caring, loving, and generous supporters keep the doors open to this non-profit ministry. Montana Outreach is not funded by any state, federal or local tax dollars. Teen Challenge International was started over Fifty years ago in New York by David Wilkerson, author of "The Cross and the Switchblade."

Teen Challenge is open to assist all who are able to function in a live-in setting. Women that have severe limitations are referred to organizations where they can find the care required for their special needs. Psychotic drugs, mood altering drugs and narcotics are not allowed at all.

We request that you de-tox before entering the program. There are de-tox centers in most communities. In the Missoula area call Providence Center at 329-5895 or go to Missoula Community Hospital for referral.

Typically Teen Challenge lasts 12-18 months, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Emphasis is placed not on the amount of time, but on the evaluated progress of the individual as to when they complete.

We estimate that it costs $1500 a month per student, to provide this residential program. Montana Teen Challenge pledges a scholarship to each student to cover half the monthly cost of $750, which includes program expenses, and room and board. This is accomplished through student work experiences, car washes, other fund raisers and faithful Teen Challenge supporters. Students and their families are asked to contribute towards the $750 monthly balance through each student's own financial means or by encouraging the charitable support and help of others who may sponsor their stay. Sponsors may include your family members, friends, churches, businesses or other concerned and caring individuals.

Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest and the Garden of Read'n are pleased to bring Sarah Palin to Missoula, Montana for a very special event. Ms. Palin will be speaking at the "Raise the Roof" fundraiser which aims to raise awareness and funds for Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest's Montana Women's Outreach in Missoula. Palin's keynote address is titled "Take a stand for God, Family, and Country."

Montana Women's Outreach is part of Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest, which offers faith-based recovery services to people facing life-controlling problems. The Montana Women's Outreach provides care for up to 20 women and their small children. Teen Challenge's goal is also to raise finances to remodel and add on to their existing facilities.

The Montana Women's Outreach is a highly successful program that helps women who have been caught in drug and/or alcohol addictions find the care that they so desperately need. According to the Substance and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA) over 20 million people need services for drugs or alcohol, but are unable to acquire them.

State, local, and federal tax dollars do not fund the 12-18 month long-term recovery program, nor do insurance companies. However, Montana Women's Outreach allows women with little or no resources to attend the program.

Teen Challenge fundraisers provide support for nearly all of the women who often do not have the finances to support their own care or even purchase their own personal items. Additional funding comes from Higher Ground Espresso on North Orange Street, as wells as the Teen Challenge Thrift Store on Mount Avenue. These businesses also help women develop practical work skills so they can succeed once they transition back into the community.

Tickets are on sale for $100 exclusively from Teen Challenge (406-543-1912), the Garden of Read'n bookstore (2621 Brooks Street, 406-728-3032), or online at www.gardenofreadn.com.

Disclaimer: Please note that neither Teen Challenge nor Garden of Read'n have any political agendas or opinions towards Ms. Palin or her political party. This event is purely a fundraiser for the Montana Women's Outreach. No political issues or topics will be addressed during Palin's presentation of "Take a stand for God, Country and Family."
