older air cooled engines without an electronic traction control system makes a lot of sense for everyday driving; just listen to the sound of the engine and *feel* the road, no reason to break the speed limit; you can do that at the track.

The first time I ever drove a 912 it reminded me of this video (great sound!) and the first time I ever drove a targa (911SC) it reminded me of this video (rattle)

Nice sound ! It's not a flat 6 but it sound great ! No need to have lot of power to have some pleasure !

Car seems like it has more power than a 90 or 100 HP engine! Porsche just seems to always get so much from their engine designs, even the 4 cyl pushrod versions!

correct me if I'm wrong but is that little tuhunga?

I too drove that road when I attended UCSB during 1984-1988 to visit Lake Cahuma or Solvang. I drove it with my 1967 Datsun PL411hopped-up station wagon for our chocolate-pastry-wine starving-student-special fix. I would now love to drive it either with my 1965 912 or 356 SC or '57 Speedster.

I too, back during 1984-1988 when I attended UCSB, drove up that road to visit Lake Cachuma or Solvang but I did it in my 1967 Datsun PL411 station wagon. I would now love to drive that road now with either my '65 912, '65 356 SC or '57 Speedster
Are you racing a guy in a horse and buggy? What is the hoof clapping noise?? Nice drive.

@WQYTEDN The noise was the stupid camera strap rubbing against the side of the camera. I should have removed it or tied it down before I started driving.

Nope, not Little Tuhunga. It's Old San Marcos Road in Santa Barbara.

HaHa, I know this road well. Learned to drive here in the late 70's with a Datsun 510,only it's much more fun now in my 951. still love to take the long way home to the valley with a quick run up Old San Marcos!
just too bad it's gotten so developed now.

Way more fun that a Datsun 510, absolutely! Definitely need to watch out for traffic these days however. Did you catch my video heading down also?

Congrats! Fantastic driving!!! heartstoppers at min 3:30 and 4:30. I am planning to buy a 912 and yer clip gave some insights but there wasn't much of a tail slide drama, is it because of the better weight distribution or yer driving... thanks

The 912 is a wonderfully balanced car, great fun to drive. I've owned this one for 15 years, and I've been driving like this in 912s since the early 70s.
At 3:30 and 4:30 on this video there are 2 sets of extreme hairpin turns with more than 100 foot elevation change between the switchbacks.
