The tabata protocol consists of 8 intervals each interval lasting 20 seconds of a max effort followed by a 10 second rest period. In this sequence you perform each exercise twice for 8 rounds. Repeat that 4 minute sequence 4 times with a 1 minute rest period in between for a total of 20 minutes (total workout time).

  • A simpler and more effective workout, Tabata Style, would be to simply do swings...20 seconds of swings with 10 seconds rest. Or perhaps sets 0f 15-30 w/30-45 seconds rest, or is that too sissified?

  • the only thing it really has in common with true tabata is the work to rest ratio. i only called it tabata because it is what is familiar

  • @radar144pt I've been doing 2 rounds of Tabata protocol swings with a 60 lbs. KB once/week for several weeks now. If the muscles being worked didn't give out before my wind, I'd probably get a third round in.

    The other day of the week in which I do a swing workout, I get 300 swings in under 18 minutes with a 70 lbs. KB. I've told women who are spinning that if all they could do for 10 minutes is the KB swing, they'd be set! But spinning is easier.

  • @Firebird7478 I agree. Plus the lawnmovers are bullshit to do with kettlebell. Swing, clean and turkish get up is all you need to do.
