Oh I love my P15, it's just that it spooked me that one time; since then I have learned how to reef & if all else fails, we just motor & relax - it is after all a 15' boat, the extra 275 of lead in the M15 keel does make a diff, P15's might be hard to capsize, but its easy to find stories of them doing just that & even turtling, which a M15 would prob never do (a P15 is not self-righting by any stretch. The adv of my P15 is ease of launch, since I tow with a Mini Copper, thats a big plus!

I have had many sailboats, all larger than the P15. A year or so ago I bought a P15 and I feel it is one of the most stable boats I have ever sailed. They are actually very hard to capsize. It may feel like you are about to capsize, but if you just back off on the main sheet or turn just slightly into the wind you will be fine. The potters are also unsinkable because of the built in floatation foam.

Beautiful video and beautiful boat! A+
Keep them coming!
Does the M15 heel very much normally and does it feel stable? My Potter 15 does not feel stable to me and I have heard horror stories of them capsizing so Im always trying to over reef/dump wind to keep her level.

The M15 will heel over to about 15 degrees or so when sailing normally. When harder pressed it will heel to about 30 degrees but almost always feels quite safe. I did have one time when the wind caught me on the beam -- I heeled over and got some water in over the combings. This, however was quite unusual. Don't think I have heard of an M15 capsizing but it is possible.

thanks for the info - I see in this vid the first pass it looks like a gust hits and you turned or went to weather, upwind? is this the preferred way of dealing with gusts rather that dumping wind? very cool boat, look forward to seeing more videos.

When the gust hit, the boat begins to heal and naturally wants to round up -- turn into the wind. I could continue at this angle but I find that the boat feels a bit pressed so I ease the sheet just a bit. This reduces the heelilng angle and the boat sails better -- less sideways pressure and more drive forward.
