  • ok i have one question...after reviewing this video...being deaf at birth....a doctor told me when i was 15 that i have nerve deafness... now the C I as you describe as implant will travel into the electrode into the auditory nerve.......now what if the auditory nerve as the dr puts it...is damage would C I be any good?

  • @rejinajean, If the 'nerve deafness' your doctor described is a problem in the hair cells, a cochlear would work for you. If the 'nerve deafness' is a problem down closer to the brain stem, it could be untouchable.

The patient would first undergo an evaluation process. Part of that process is an MRI scan of the auditory nerve. If you have damage on one side, in some cases the other side could still be used.

  • I shouldn't have to say this, but... epic swearing, flamers and hijacks will be removed and youtube notified of users who do so. I know that many on both sides have deep feelings about this subject. If you want your comment to stay, do nothing of the above. Thanks.

  • Eradicating the Deaf world.

  • Why didn't hearing aids 'eradicate' the Deaf world?

  • As with any painful head injury, CI or not, you should see your doctor.

  • My son started losing his hearing when he was 3. He got hearing aids then got a CI when he was 7. He said, "I don't want to be deaf" He is/was a hearing child and thank God the technology is there and he can still be a hearing child. He is now 9 and loves his CI. He adjusted immediately because he had had hearing and his brain knew what to do with sound. Do your research though, it's not perfect. But it was best decision we made for our son. He loves his CI.

  • i have this and i am profound deaf. i have pink one :)

  • @kalijasin I don't see where that's coming from. Care to explain?

  • @Kwasygirl also, your attitude is one that argues hearing is Superior and that is insulting to deaf people. Its the same as labeling us inferior, broken.

  • @Kwasygirl Because we can do everything, aside from listening to maybe music, a hearing person can .. without hearing. In some cases ... we even do them better.

  • @ccandersen94 or if its in the brain; if there is damage to the auditory lobes them self. There is no bypassing that with implantation.

  • @xevos0719 No one has had an implant for 70 years, so you cannot say with certainty that they last 70 years.
