The 1970's were the last time when electronics technology could still be considered interesting from a human perspective. today all of these discrete components have been consolidated into integrated circuits or simple implemented "virtually" in software. On a new system when a train crashes it will be because some coder programmed in some integer overflow that causes a race condition and not some failure of physical equipment.

For a simple way of detecting the metro, it looks a bit complicated.

Yup!
Quite interesting, informative & detailed. Thanks for giving an insight of this - seems more understandable (& reminds me of some "train" movies like The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (original & remake w/Denzel Washington & John Travolta), etc. Growing up in NYC & always taking trains in Manhattan this also gives me more of an "appreciation" of what the Subway & Metro controllers do behind the scenes, so to speak... Kudos!
